- Steve's WNBA All-Star Ballot | Let's Fantasy Game
Voting for the WNBA All-Star Game ends Saturday, June 28, making this the perfect time to reveal my own 10-player ballot. June 23, 2025 Steve's WNBA All-Star Ballot Steve Pimental There are a lot of valid strategies for voting for All-Stars, including voting for the best players, the most fun players, or whomever plays for your favorite team. For my vote and, more importantly, this article, I’m attempting to identify the six frontcourt players and four guards who have had the best seasons at the time of this writing. So Stefanie Dolson won’t be on my ballot, even though she would make the game infinitely more fun. I’m going to choose six frontcourt players and four guards (as per the rules) who have been awesome through the first five weeks of the season. I can’t wait to compare this list to the All-WNBA teams at the end of the season. I found it fascinating that the WNBA website lists each player’s fantasy points on the ballot, along with points, rebounds, and assists. Fantasy points are a reasonable proxy for overall production, but I worry I sometimes fall into the trap of evaluating players by their fantasy value rather than their real-life value. That’s not the end of the world, but it's not really appropriate here, either. If I vote for Rhyne Howard it should be for her contributions to the Atlanta Dream, not her contributions to my fantasy team, insofar as they are different. What I realized from completing this exercise is that there are going to be a lot of “All-Star snubs” this year. There are literally a dozen players that I believe have a reasonable case to be an All-Star starter who I could not find room for on my ballot. Just try to keep that in mind before you take to social media to lament how your favorite player got robbed. Frontcourt Napheesa Collier, Forward, Minnesota Lynx Phee would be my MVP to this point in the season, though it is closer than I would have anticipated. Her numbers are quite comparable to A’Ja Wilson’s, but Collier has played two more games and been much more efficient. It also doesn’t hurt that the Lynx have the best record in the league and the Aces are eighth in the standings. Collier leads the league in points and is sixth in rebounds. A’Ja Wilson, Center, Las Vegas Aces It seems like Wilson was out forever but she only missed three games before returning for the Aces’ home loss to Seattle Friday. The three-time WNBA MVP could very well be on pace for her fourth award. Her per-game numbers are absurd. She ranks fourth, second, fourth and first in points, rebounds, steals and blocks per game. She is averaging 2.0 steals per game and 2.7 blocks. If she can maintain those averages, she would become just the second WNBA player ever to average at least 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks in a season. That being said, I don’t think you can be the MVP when your team is below .500 in games you play. Breanna Stewart, Forward, New York Liberty Stewart has struggled from three this season but she is still second in the league in ppg and 14th in the league in true shooting percentage. She could actually be a darkhorse MVP candidate if she starts shooting like she has throughout her career, but even while shooting 22.2 percent on threes she has been awfully good for the Liberty. Satou Sabally, Forward, Phoenix Mercury I think it would be perfectly reasonable to have Stewart, Sabally and Thomas in any order. Sabally gets the edge over her teammate due to playing more games. Sabally has been well-known for her scoring, and she is leading the league in usage due in part to Kahleah Copper missing most of the season. I have been equally impressed with Sabally’s rebounding, as she has averaged 8.1 per game. Like Stewart, Sabally hasn’t yet shot the ball well from deep. She doesn’t have the same track record as Stewart but if Sabally’s shooting improves in the second half, she could make an All-WNBA team for the second time in her career. Alyssa Thomas, Forward, Phoenix Mercury Is Thomas the best player never to win an MVP award? That may be worth diving into in a future article, especially if Napheesa Collier wins MVP this season. Thomas is a three-time All-WNBA and five-time All-Defensive team selection. She has the most career triple-doubles, with 15 between the regular season and playoffs. Sabrina Ionescu is second with four triple-doubles. Thomas leads the league with 8.9 assists per game while averaging 14.4points and 7.2 rebounds per game. She is also anchoring the team with the fourth-best defensive rating in the league. Nneka Ogwumike, Forward, Seattle Storm I think there are seven forwards you could reasonably pick for this spot. I went with Ogwumike because her team is out to a surprising 8-5 start and she is basically the only post player on her team who has played well. Ezi Magbegor has struggled while rookie Dominque Malonga has struggled to earn significant playing time. Meanwhile, Ogwumike is averaging 20.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per 36 minutes. Guards Caitlin Clark, Guard, Indiana Fever No guard has won WNBA MVP since Diana Taurasi in 2009. Caitlin Clark will almost certainly end that streak, though probably not this season. She barely reached my games-played threshold but she is averaging 41.7 fantasy points per game, nearly five more than any other guard. She is eighth in the league in usage and second in assists. She still commits way too many turnovers but that should change as she gains more experience in the league. Sabrina Ionescu, Guard, New York Liberty Ionescu and Caitlin Clark are fairly similar players, but it seems nearly impossible to compare them because their team contexts are so different. Ionescu has played five more games but Clark is averaging 2.2 more minutes per game. Clark has committed more than twice has many turnovers per game as Ionescu, but Ionescu plays with two other point guards and Breanna Stewart, while Clark has all of the ball-handling responsibilities in Indiana. I feel like I’m punishing Ionescu for playing on a better team but Clark is averaging 3.5 more assists per game, and that was just too much for me to ignore. Allisha Gray, Guard, Atlanta Dream I had to have at least one guard from the 9-4 Atlanta Dream. While it's not Rhyne Howard’s fault that Dream head coach Karl Smesko has her shooting too many threes, I gave the nod to Gray because she is so much more efficient than her teammate. Gray is averaging 20.2 ppg on 49.7 percent shooting from the field and 43.2 percent on threes. Gray is sixth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio, and I believe she is a better defender than Howard as well. Brittney Sykes, Guard, Washington Mystics Much like the last frontcourt position, this spot came down to seven different players. I finally landed on Sykes as a nod to her carrying the Mystics to a surprising 5-7 record. Sykes has be considered the frontrunner for most-improved player. She is averaging 20.6 points per game, well above her previous career-high of 15.9. Her 4.8 assists per game are also a career high, and she is third in the league in usage. I thought she was miscast as a number one scoring option but she has more than proven up to the challenge. Sykes still leads the league in free throw attempts while shooting 81.0 percent from the line. - Players Poised for a Breakout This Week in the W | Let's Fantasy Game
With no concrete timeline for Angel Reese’s return and Chicago currently on a downward spiral, another double-double machine has emerged: Enter, Elizabeth Williams! August 8, 2025 Players Poised for a Breakout This Week in the W EJ Arocho Cameron Brink | Los Angeles Sparks 8/9 vs Golden State 8/10 vs Seattle 8/12 vs New York In just three games since returning from an ACL injury that kept her out for over a year, Cam has averaged 3.0 blocks per game. With volleyball like verticality, she has already made a statement on defense. On Tuesday, in a win over red-hot Indiana, she swatted FIVE shots and was the defensive anchor LA needed to grab that big win. As she continues to work her way back and increase her minutes (eventually landing in the starting lineup), she could be the missing piece to their puzzle for a postseason push. The Sparks currently sit at 9th in the standings, just out of the playoff picture, something that could certainly change this week. Jewell Loyd | Las Vegas Aces 8/8 vs Seattle 8/10 vs Connecticut 8/13 vs New York Since being relegated to coming off the bench two weeks ago, Jewell has looked the best she has all year! A season-high 27 points vs Golden State was a result of a season-high seven triples, looking sharper and more confident in her new role. The Aces are 4-1 in these past five games and have pushed over .500 and into the postseason picture, currently sitting at 7th. With improved scoring production, the Aces will look to exact revenge on Seattle and New York, having dropped recent meetings against both. Loyd’s efforts could launch Vegas to a 3-0 week, which would have them ascend the standings and work wonders for their confidence as a collective. Elizabeth Williams | Chicago Sky 8/9 vs Indiana 8/13 vs Connecticut With no concrete timeline for Angel Reese’s return and Chicago currently on a downward spiral, another double-double machine has emerged: Enter, Elizabeth Williams! She has moved into the starting lineup in Reese’s absence and has recorded consecutive double-doubles in the last two games, one being a win over Washington to break an 8-game skid. Williams has stepped up and made an immediate impact as the Sky look to desperately work their way out of 11th place. A big showing could make for a win over Indy on Saturday in what would be their first of the season. Aaliyah Edwards | Connecticut Sun 8/10 vs Las Vegas 8/11 vs Golden State 8/13 vs Chicago Fresh off a trade from Washington, Aaliyah enters Week 13 in CT threads ready to make noise. Her minutes (and production) have been limited all season with the Mystics, down in every stat across the board from a year ago. She brings size and versatility to a team desperately searching for answers… and wins. She will compliment fellow Husky Tina Charles nicely in the frontcourt as they look to escape last place in the standings. Connecticut currently ranks last in the league in scoring and rebounding, two things Li can instantly contribute to. While the playoffs might not be in the picture this year, it’s never too late to build chemistry and assemble pieces for next year. Stephanie Talbot | New York Liberty 8/8 vs Dallas 8/10 vs Minnesota 8/12 vs Los Angeles 8/13 vs Las Vegas Steph is emerging as a key reserve for the Libs, boosting her stock in Tuesday’s game against Dallas. She’s able to score and rebound at a high level, adding yet another layer of efficient 3-point mastery and size to an already tall and dangerous outside shooting NY team. With Stewie still sidelined, it’s the perfect chance for Steph to step up this [very loaded] week when her number is called. And when Stewie returns…and with the addition of former Finals MVP Emma Meesseman, she will complement this team well and give them yet another reliable scoring option as NY gears up for a title defense. Dominique Malonga | Seattle Storm 8/8/ vs Las Vegas 8/10 vs Los Angeles 8/13 vs Atlanta Seattle has a few things to figure out as they’re currently on a 3-game losing streak, but the French phenom has come alive the last two games to keep it competitive and close vs a hot Indiana (12 points) and 1st place Minnesota (12 points). It marks the first time this season she recorded back-to-back double-digit scoring performances, a sign that she’s gaining steam and newfound confidence in this second half of the regular season. We have yet to see the rookie play to her full potential, but if this is a sign of things to come, she’s well on her way and ready to put the league on notice! The Storm are sliding down the standings but currently sit at 6th, with a chance to move up a spot or two if a 3-0 week follows. - ‘Twas the Week Before All-Star Break… | Let's Fantasy Game
Indiana and New York will have FIVE All-Stars on the court when these two teams clash on Wednesday. Their last meeting [in the Commissioner’s Cup] saw an EXPLOSION of offense... July 11, 2025 ‘Twas the Week Before All-Star Break… EJ Arocho Angel Reese is SCORCHING HOT The past two weeks have seen Reese elevate her game to new heights: seven consecutive double-doubles to be exact, including 16 points & 17 rebounds vs Minnesota in the first meeting just days ago. Her efficiency has improved dramatically and her FG & FT% are both better than ever, as is her court vision. She looks like a totally different player than we saw during the first month of the season. The Bayou Barbie will go to war against her All-Star Captain and MVP frontrunner Napheesa Collier in a Saturday afternoon game and again on Monday night. Double the drama, double the spice! Paige Bueckers vs Caitlin Clark… FINALLY Sunday will see Indiana take on Dallas in front of a massive crowd at American Airlines Center for the showdown fans have been waiting for all season! Two of the WNBA's most exciting, talented and popular players will clash for the first time since their college days at UConn and Iowa, respectively. Both come into this one averaging nearly the same numbers across the board. Both are known for their 3-point shooting and court vision. Although a home game for the Wings, the crowd could be 50/50 split. Indiana took the first meeting of the season series sans Caitlin, can they make it two-in-a-row? Last year’s Rookie of the Year meets this year’s frontrunner. Grab your popcorn! Three MVP contenders CLASH With the season split at 1-1, New York and Atlanta will go head-to-head on Sunday for the tiebreaker. Dynamic duo & 1-2 punch Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu will take on Allisha Gray who is currently having the best season of her professional career, averaging career-highs in points, rebounds and assists. The first meeting saw Sab & Stewie combine for 57 and snatch the dub, though Gold Medal Lish got revenge in the last one, dropping 20 points in Atlanta’s 9-point win. I have this game circled in bright red as the game of the week! Fiancées Reunited Last week saw Phoenix sign 2x Champ DeWanna Bonner, bringing her back to where it all started with the Mercury, where she was drafted 5th overall back in 2009. This homecoming also sees her reunite with former Connecticut Sun teammate and current fiancée Alyssa Thomas. A team that has been the hottest in the league the past few weeks just got even hotter! Fresh off an upset of the league’s best team [the Lynx], two games this week could result in two more wins, including a rematch with mighty Minnesota on Wednesday. A Team Filled with All-Stars The Seattle Storm boast THREE All-Star selections in Skylar Diggins, Nneka Ogwumike & Gabby Williams. This trio has been incredible all season long, with Nneka and Skylar likely All-WNBA First & Second Team selections and Gabby a DPOY frontrunner. Three games in six days have them matched up against Connecticut first, followed by Washington and Golden State. They have yet to face the Mystics this season, but look to avenge losses to CT and GS. In fact, those are the only two L's Seattle has suffered the past two weeks! They’ll especially have Wednesday’s game vs GS underlined, highlighted AND circled, as the Valks handed them their worst loss of the season back on June 29th (84-57). First Meeting of the Season Before KiKi Iriafen, Sonia Citron and Kelsey Plum head off to clash in Indianapolis, they’ll do battle on Tuesday for the first time this year. This one is a toss-up in my opinion, since both teams have multiple scoring options and lockdown defenders. Both teams boast four of five starters averaging double-figures, including the three aforementioned All-Stars. Monster Clash Before the Break Indiana and New York will have FIVE All-Stars on the court when these two teams clash on Wednesday. Logo snipers Caitlin Clark and Sabrina Ionescu will be teammates on Saturday, July 19th, but they’ll first face-off in front of a sold-out crowd at Barclays. Their last meeting [in the Commissioner’s Cup] saw an EXPLOSION of offense, with CC dropping a season-high 32 (seven 3’s) and Sab going off for a season-high 34 (four 3’s). You can bet your bottom dollar that NY is craving revenge after the Fever handed them that loss, their first of the season. It’ll be all business in this one! Vegas Woes The Aces don’t look very good, plain and simple. To add insult to injury, their one constant, A’ja Wilson, took a hard fall last week and was ruled out Thursday vs Washington. If she’s forced to sit out more games, it could spell disaster in an already up-and-down (mostly down) season thus far. Games against Golden State and Dallas are absolute MUST-WINS to prevent a further slide down the standings. Newly-signed NaLyssa Smith will look to have breakout performances this week and help keep Vegas afloat. I’ve always said if this team can get clicking on all cylinders, they can beat anybody in the league. Multiple Olympians, All-Stars and WNBA Champs. They have all the pieces to be successful this season, but the time to LOCK IN is NOW. SEE MORE ARTICLES & VIDEOS About the Author EJ Arocho is Mr. Women’s Basketball and lives in New Jersey. May 22, 2025 In The Know W/ NSL's Croix Soto Croix Soto What should people know about the NSL that they may not already know? What have your favorite parts been so far? People should know that the Northern Super League is the first ever professional women’s soccer league in Canada. My favorite part so far has been getting our first win against Calgary on our home field in front of our fans and I have already made new friendships that will last a lifetime. Are there any upcoming NSL matchups that women’s sports fans should get extra excited about? I would say our upcoming Ottawa game on June 7th. It will be a home game this time around and we will get the opportunity for a rematch after we lost to them away. It will be a good opportunity for redemption at home in front of our fans. When you aren’t watching women’s soccer, what is other women’s sport and or women’s athlete that you love watching? I watch my friends who play in the NWSL because I love cheering them on and watching them do great things from a distance. I also love watching track and field especially during the Olympics. It’s amazing to watch the records be broken and watch the sport continue to grow in such a positive way. I love how track athletes are able to have their own style and personalities come out on the track. It's also super fun to see the new looks they will have when they step onto the track. Select Northern Super League (NSL) matches are available on ESPN+. Other matches can be viewed on the league's official website at https://www.nsl.ca/ . ESPN+ has signed up to show over 40 NSL matches in the inaugural 2025 season, including playoffs and the final.
